Peloponnese

The Peloponnese peninsula is a hige expanse of land, actually part of the mainland of Greece made, in essence, into an island by the Corinth Canal which separates it at Isthmia. The varied landscape, amazing diverse scenery, rich history and close proximity to Athens mean that the Peloponnese is visited by thousands of people every year. It is made up of 7 prefecures, Argolida, Arcadia, Elia, Korinthia, Messinia, Lakonia & Achaia all of which have something different to offer.

Visit the archaeological sites of Ancient Olympia, home of the Olympic Games, Byzantine Mystra, Sparta, Monemvasia, Diros Caves on the Mani prefecture, the amazing engineering feat of the Corinth Canal, Ancient Corinth, Acrocorinth and Ancient Nemea.

The Arcadian villages are where the headquarters of the revolutionaries were based during the revolt against the Turkish are graphic and picturesque, visit Stemnitsa, Lagadia, Dimitsana, Karytaina and Vytina and the beautiful Loussios gorge.

The Peloponnese is split by a high mountains which run down the middle of the peninsula. Parnonas, Taygetos, Ziria, Chelmos and other peaks are great places to visit all year round with the areas of Kalavrita and Mainalo offering skiing during the Winter months and all of them their own micro ecological systems all year round with many rare species of flowers and wildlife.

In contrast, the Peloponnese, being surrounded by sea has some absolutely stunning beaches with long sandy seashores in some areas, ragged coastlines as in the Mani but the whole peninsula is dotted with small coves, harbours and inlets perfect for mooring boats or visiting the traditional tavernas serving fresh fish.
